CFSC 50+ Reimagine Program booklet design

Organized by the Christian Family Service Centre and co-sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club 50+ Startup Incubator Programme is actively supporting individuals over 50 in establishing social enterprises. It encourages them to explore the latter part of their lives, affirm their self-worth, continue learning, and assist those in need.

Upon the completion of this initiative, a publication was curated by the organizers to outline the program’s goals, the entrepreneurial journeys of the participants, and highlights from the workshops. Our involvement encompassed roles in editorial design, graphic design, and printing of the publication.

To highlight artistic and creative elements, the editorial designer intentionally employed a traditional foreign binding method known as the butterfly stitch. The distinctive feature of the butterfly stitch is its two prominent semicircular metal loops, allowing individuals at that time to combine multiple butterfly-stitched booklets into one for easy carrying. While its practicality may not be as strong today, its traditional and intriguing appearance can pique readers’ interest and make it more desirable for collection.

Furthermore, the editorial designer used two different sizes of paper to bind the book, with the cover pages being smaller and the inner pages larger. This was aimed at further fostering cultural and creative possibilities, symbolizing breaking free from conventional frameworks and encouraging individuals to turn impossibilities into possibilities. The publication design adopts a minimalist style of editorial, with limited colors, complemented by simple color blocks and lines, directing the focus on the text and the unique printing of the publication.

Through this publication, our aim is to showcase the multifaceted nature of print publications and inspire individuals of all ages to embrace challenges, experiment, and craft a distinctive life journey.
